Referring Policy:

408: Grading and Transcripting

Grading and Transcripting. A student’s progress toward graduation, and official records of academic achievement, shall be maintained by the EC in a manner consistent with the School Plan’s commitment to authentic, performance-based assessment and evaluation. While Learning Goals, Credits, and Competencies are used for internal tracking of student learning, an appropriate procedure for converting Milestone’s mastery assessment to conventional credits and credit hours as required or requested by external stakeholders shall be used.

Procedure:

Rationale:

The Mastery Transcript platform, when used in conjunction with Milestone’s approved Learning Goals, Credits, and Competencies, provides an authentic and performance-based method of assessing learning. When this method must be converted to conventional transcripted credits, for example when a student transfers to a different school district, or when required by DPI, a valid and reliable method must be applied consistently.

Process

  1. Advisors shall maintain and update each student’s “Credits and Competencies – Student Tracking Record” spreadsheet each term.
  2. Advisors shall maintain and update each student’s Mastery Transcript to align with their Student Tracking Record spreadsheet each term.
  3. The registrar shall maintain and update each student’s transcript in the school’s Student Information System (SIS), utilizing the following conversions:
    1. For each Competency marked to a new status of “In Progress” on a student’s Tracking Record spreadsheet for each term, ⅛ (0.125) credits shall be awarded on their SIS transcript in the “Aligned DPI Course and Code” as described in the Credits and Competencies section of the School Plan.
    2. For each Competency marked to a new status of “Mastered” on a student’s Tracking Record spreadsheet for each term, ¼ (0.25) credits shall be awarded on their SIS transcript, again in the aligned course code
    3. The Registrar shall sum the partial credits awarded each term to a final awarded credit – up to 1.0 credits for each Credit for each term.
